Biography

A previous version of this profile claimed that "Grace Powhatan" was a granddaughter of Ka Okee, supposed daughter (some say son) of Pocahontas. Even had any of these people existed (there is no evidence they did), the timing is off:

Lets say KaOkee, said to be born 1611, was fifteen when she married. He daughter, Unknown Powhatan, could have been born as early as 1626 if she was the first child. Now say she married at age eighteen in 1644. If Grace Powhatan was the first born child of Unknown Powhatan she could have been born no earlier than 1645. Taking this one step further, if Grace Powhatan married at age fifteen, at the earliest, her oldest child could have been born no earlier than 1661.

I have removed Peter Ashton as the husband of Grace Powhatan as it is documented that he died without issue, meaning he had no children. No wife was named in his will. Peter Ashton left his entire estate to his two brothers, James and John, in England. [1]

There was a Grace _____ Ashton, who was married to Col. John Ashton of Virginia. Her father is believed by some to have been a Surgeon named William Frizer as he named all her children in his 1677 will. There was also some speculation that he father was London merchant Henry Meese, based soley on the fact that prior to returning to England, he gave a mare to Grace's daughter Mary.[2][3]

If there was a person, named Grace Powhatan, which I seriously doubt, there is no record of her that I can find. Although this information is found all over the internet, there are no documented sources for it. It is possible that she is a conglomeration of other women.
