DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

added US Southern Colonies Project as manager. This profile had been PPP/managed by the Virginia Project. I can see removing PPP, but I still think that it needs to be a project-managed profile. (Or removed from the project's watchlist completely - US Southern Colonies Project had only been added to the trusted list.)

some pages from the Poythress Surname site were captured by archive.org's WayBack Machine - if you hit a "page not found", try the url there: https://archive.org

The new Poythress site does not appear to present the info in the same way as the old site, so it's difficult to find the similar info, but worth looking: https://poythress.org/

update: merges of Poythress-109 and Poythress-122 have been completed

Poythress-109 and Poythress-8 appear to represent the same person because: John son of Francis the immigrant. See Poythress-122 for sources. Just a few more merges, and I think we'll have the early John Poythress profiles sorted in WikiTree.

Hi! The John who was the son of the immigrant Francis & his wife Mary was born before 1635 & died "after 1694" by one source, 1704 by another, and his estate was settled December 1712.

The easiest fix is to change his dates and propose a merge with Poythress-8, if that's ok.

Let me know if you'd rather a different fix, otherwise, I'll change the dates & propose the merge.

Thanks, Liz

Poythress-122 and Poythress-8 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! These are the same person. The will was proved in December 1712. Text at http://www.tc.umn.edu/~timsx001/lpoole.html (which also has a transcript of the [undated] will naming wife Christian, son Joshua, among others) includes the observation " At the time of the 1704 rent roll, this John Poythress and none of his sons are listed. It would appear that this John Poythress had died about that time and the estate had not yet been settled." So John died between 1704 & 1712, which resolves why these were set as an unmerged match. Please merge (finally :D). Thanks!

Could you take a look at Poythress-122 also? The source I cited (Williams' Sussex County, Virginia book) says John named his step-brothers Thomas and Joshua Wynne as his executors of his 1712 will (and info about Thomas is clear it's Wynne-1). Do you have a source for the 1704/Jamestown death? Thanks! Liz

Poythress-102 and Poythress-8 appear to represent the same person because: they're siblings, married to the same woman. Please merge if you agree they're the same person. Thanks!

Could you request the merger of John Poythress again. I can not find it to compare.
