Place: Pueblo, Colorado Territory, United States[10]
Note
Note: Robertson C. Prater was born in about 1815 in the Pendleton District of South Carolina, believed to be the first son of Josiah and Eleanor.
He likely appears in the 1820 census at age about 5; his father Josiah is listed in the Pendleton District with a spouse and three sons under 10 years old.
By the time of the 1830 census the family seems to have moved to Hall County, Georgia, where Josiah is listed a spouse and nine children. Robertson would be about 15.
By the 1840 census the family is still living in Hall County, still with five sons but now with only two daughters (possibly some died young). Robertson would be about 25.
Robertson was reportedly a soldier in the Cherokee Wars.
Robertson married Elizabeth Bird Johnson in about 1842 (when he was about 27) in Hall County.
The 1850 census finds Robertson (as Roberson Prator) at age 35 farming in District 38 in Hall County with his wife and four children.
Robertson appears in the 1860 census (as R.C. Prator) at age 44 still farming in Hall County, now with eight children. Living adjacent are his brothers A.P. and Josiah and families, as well as his 67-year old father Josiah.
By the 1870 census the family (Robertson, wife, and six of the children) had moved to near Huerfano, Pueblo County, Colorado where they operated a ranch.
Robertson died at age 64 on December 3, 1879 at the ranch. He is buried nearby.
