Biography

The Said Thomas Hicks Prather was the child of Henry Prather born on 14 - Sep - 1732 at Queen Annes Par Prince Georges Co MD died at Antrim Twp Cumberland Co PA on 29 - Aug - 1775 and his ( 1st ) wife Elizabeth Hicks born on c - - 1736 at PA died at Antrim Twp Franklin Co PA on p 22 - Jan - 1791 married on 9 - May - 1754.

Henry's son: THOMAS PREATHER Served as private under. Capt. William Berryhill, 1780.81. Thomas was the son of Henry Prather and wife Elizabeth Heickes of Antrim Twp., who married 1754 and had issue: Thomas Heickes; Abraham; Henry, Jr.; George Gordon and wife Mary; Eleanor mar. David Shannon. The above Henry Prather was appointed aJustice of the Peace May, 1770, and April, 1771; his will was dated Oct., 1775, naming the above children. Penna. Arch. 5th Ser. Vol. 6, p. 80, 101[1]

Abram was presented with a tortoise shell snuff box lined with gold by Robert Johnson of Gen. George Washington's staff./ Fought in battle of Loyalhanna. He served in the Continental Army.

During the French & Indian War he was a Lt. in Capt J. Beall's Co. from 9 Oct., 1757 to 8 Nov.,1758.

He was also a Justice of the Peace for Antrim Twp. in 1770/71.

The tortoise Shell snuff box has been handed down from first son to first son and is now with Paul Prather of Minneapolis, Minn. (1994)

According to his will, Henry owned at least four slaves at the time of his death. They were named:

  • Bill (man)
  • Jack (boy)
  • Sam (boy)

An additional woman Pheby(?) was named in his estate inventory in 1775.
