Notes

Note NI148"In March 1744/45, John Smith Prather purchased 620 acres of land called "Deer Park" & "Bear Garden Inlarged", which, when Frederick Co. was formed in 1748, from Pr. Geo's Co., lay in the new county. We discovered two deeds, dated 1733/4, showing that he purchased a total of 200 a. called "Hill's Choice". he did not mention any such land in his will, and we only found one deed in which he disposed of 41 1/2 a. of "Hill's Choice". So what became of the remaining portion, we can't say. Neither did we find a deed showing the disposition of any of the acreage of "Sprigg's Request", although his father and mother left him 166 a. This may have an explanation, however, in the fact that in 1744, he requested a resurvey of this land. Perhaps this resurvey showed only 111 a.
