The reason for the separation was Pratt's affair with a young Anoka widow, Mrs. Jacobson. The Hutchinson family believed he went "back to England." Cindy Cage, a descendant of Ella Miriam Pratt, reported a tradition in her family that Pascal Pratt escaped across Canada to England assisted by his Masonic order, which then disowned him. She also heard it said that Calla (Pratt) Hutchinson remembered him fondly and stayed in touch with her father by mail.
