Biography

Cross of St George
Thomas Pratt was born in England.

"Thomas and Mary Spenseley Pratt were on hard times Thomas and the older boys worked in the Lead mines."

"Some of the Pratts, Rowes, and Spenseleys left Griffin Parish in Yorkshire, England and arrived in Liverpool to set sail aboard the "Constellation." They arrived in New York July 3, 1849."

"The road from Liverpool to New York, as they who have traveled it know, is very long, crooked, rough, and eminently disagreeable" wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson, when he was aboard a packet ship in 1833.

"The families traveled together to Galena Wisconsin. They worked at the lead mines near New Diggings and Schullsburg. One of the mines they worked at was the Salt Water Mining Co,"

Footnotes

"The Constellation was built for the Robert Ker.it Red Star Line. It was the largest ship in the Liverpool, New York packet. It weighed 1,534 tons. It carried between 800 to 900 passengers per trip." From what I have read in the family history Tom and Mary are buried in the Hillside Cemetery, In Lancaster, Grant County, Wisconsin, but I can find no record of this, and am looking in other places.
