I'm Eowyn, a WikiTree Mentor and Team Member. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person. The farther back in your tree, the more likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile. Try to add an estimated date and place of birth, at the very least, a country, for each person. This helps in searches. Last but not least, try to source each profile as you go.
We also have a naming standard here.
Feel free to check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide to get you started.
Do you have any questions I can help with?
We hope you will like our collaborative genealogy community. You now have full access to all the features of WikiTree. If you need any help getting started, make sure to read How to use WikiTree for Yourself. We do emphasize entering Sources at WikiTree as well as dates and locations as you build your family tree here. Thank you and if you have any questions , please feel free to ask . Maggie
You don't need to volunteer to help grow WikiTree to search it for your ancestors.
However, if you wanted to join the community, add your branches, and help connect with others, following the nine points in the Honor Code, please re-post and let us know. Whether you join or not, you can search WikiTree and post questions in the G2G forum about your search or if you need help beyond WikiTree Help. For more information about WikiTree, its mission is at About WikiTree.
