Biography

Aaron Pratt, son of Phineas Pratt and Marah Priest, was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts. There is some question about his year of birth. In a normal timely fashion, he would have been born about 1649, two years after Peter, which is the date used by the Mayflower Society.[1] His gravestone says he died 1735/6 in his 81st year, so born about 1656. Anderson's Great Migration uses 1654.[2] He was named in the 1738 distribution of Phineas' estate.[3]

He became a resident of Hingham around 1683, at which time he purchased a tract of land in the second precinct from Capt. Joshua Hobart. [4]

He married first, about 1684, Sarah Pratt, a daughter of Joseph Pratt of Weymouth and Sarah (Judkins) Pratt. She was born at Weymouth, Massachusetts, 31 May 1664 and died in Hingham, Massachusetts, 22 July 1706, at 42 years. Joseph Pratt's 1719 will named son-in-law Aaron Pratt and the children of his late daughter Sarah Pratt.[1]

For his second wife, he married 4 Sep 1707 Mrs. Sarah (Wright) Cummings, of Charlestown at Reading, Massachusetts.[5] She was born at Woburn, Massachusetts, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Hassell) Wright; married first in 1687, Abraham Cummings. They had children: Abraham, Joseph, Sarah and Eliezer. She died 13 Dec. 1752, at 84 yrs.[1]

Aaron Pratt apparently sold his right in his father's estate to Daniel Fletcher, on 15 Nov 1720.[6][1]

"Farmer." Constable 1705. Resided in the second precinct, on what is now South Main St.[4]

He died in Hingham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay, 23 Feb 1735/6. His gravestone says he was in his 81st year (ie. age 80).[7][8] This was the area of Hingham's Second Parish, later incorporated (1770) as Cohassett.

His will dated 1 June, 1730; proved 9 March 1736, named his wife Sarah and children Benjamin, Henry, Daniel, Aaron, Jonathan, John, Moses, Phenies [sic], Nathaniel, Sarah Webb (deceased), Elizabeth Pratt, Mercy Orcutt, Hannah and Abigail Pratt.[1][9]
