Biography

Samuel Pratt was born on 15 May 1697 at Middleborough, Plymouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay, the son of Samuel and Hannah (Miller) Pratt.[1][2]

He married Jerusha Conant about 1722. She was the daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Washburn) Conant, born 08 January 1701/2 in Middleborough.[3] She was still living in December 1748. Her death may be the one recorded on 24 May 1767 in Middleborough as "Jerusha Pratt."[2]

On 18 Nov. 1745 Samuel Pratt and wife, Jerusha, of Middleborough, sold to Benjamin White, Jr., of Middleborough, land of Josiah Conant that was set off to the widow Elizabeth Conant, and 1/7th to her daughter, Jerusha, now the wife of the above named Samuel Pratt.[4]

Samuel died before 06 March 1745, the date his will was proved. His will, dated 30 July 1745, named his wife Jerusha; son Nathaniel as executor; son Samuel under age 21; daughters Betty and Thankful Pratt.[5] His inventory was taken on 12 March 1745/46 in Middleborough.[6]

The children of Samuel and Jerusha (Conant) Pratt were born in Middleborough:[2]

  1. Nathan Pratt, b. ca. 1723, bp. 18 Dec 1726; mar. Margaret Simpson 03 Dec 1747 Middleborough.
  2. Betty Pratt, b. 22 Feb 1725/6; d. 09 July 1754 Middleborough; mar. Capt. Benjamin White 15 Oct. 1745 Middleborough.[7]
  3. Thankful Pratt, b. 22 May 1731; under 21 when her father made his will in 1745; mar. Azariah Thrasher 12 Oct 1749 Taunton.
  4. Samuel Pratt, b. 16 Jun 1736, bp. 27 Oct 1745; under 21 when his father made his will in 1745, marriage not found.

NOTE: The 2008 Mayflower Familes : Priest[2] mistakenly gives Betty a husband Azariah Thrasher, but the published extracts of marriage records indicate Thrasher married sister Thankful. Pratt-6064 and Pratt-4659 are not ready to be merged because: Identical life dates and birthplaces, but different parents. It looks like two different Samuel Pratts have been conflated.
