Biography

Valentine was born 1680-1684, presumably in New London. There is no record of his birth and there is a gap in the church baptisms during the time he would have been baptized. He was the son of John Prentice by his second wife Esther Nichols, daughter of Caleb and Anne Nichols. They were married around 1680, after the death of John's first wife Hester Nichols (Esther's cousin) in 1679.[1]

He received a share of his father's estate. Valentine of Woodbury gave a quitclaim to the executor of that estate, "my loving brother, Capt. John Prentis"[1]

He married Abigail Walker (bapt. 20 Sept 1691), d/o Deacon Zechariah and Elizabeth (Minor) Walker. [1]

May 12, 1737 appointed by Connecticut General Assembly to be "ensign of the north Co., or trainband, in the town of Woodbury."[2]

He died in Woodbury, Connecticut in 1756, leaving a will.[1]

Prentice-111 and Prentis-24 do not represent the same person because: They are the same people, thank you for proposing the merge, However, a merges are already in place between Prentice-111 into Prentice-39 and Prentis-24 into Prentice-39

Prentis-24 and Prentice-39 appear to represent the same person because: There is no record of birth. We should use the more common spelling Prentice, which is the way his father's was spelled. Final spelling should be PRENTICE

At one time, Valentine was thought to be the son of [Nichols-257|Hester] Nichols-257 1st wife of John Prentice. However he is son of [Nichols-2903|Esther] Nichols-2903 John's 2nd wife. The wives are two separate persons, cousins. Several Valentines need to be merged so I am correcting his mother, to facilitate merging.
