Joseph Preston was born on 01 Jul 1803 in Hampstead, Middlesex, England as the first child of joseph Preston and Margaret Mumford.

According to the 1823-25 Muster Joseph Preston arrived as a convict in 1821 aboard the Asia having been sentenced to 7 years transportation. He was at the time working as a government servant for the widow Cross at Wilberforce.

He died on 08 Jun 1863 (Note: The NSW BDM has his death registered as the 1st of Aug 1863)^[1] in St Albans, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 25, he married Hannah O'Donnell, daughter of John O'Donnell and Anne Beard, on 19 Jan 1829^[2] in Sackville Reach, New South Wales, Australia.

Joseph Preston was buried^[3] in St Albans, New South Wales, Australia (St Albans Old Cemetery).
