Albert was born about 18 October 1840[1] and baptised on 15 November 1840 in Exton. [2]
On the 1841 census he is living with his parents, age given as 8 months.[3]

By 1861 Albert was a ploughman, age 20, working for James Hammond on a farm of 303 acres, residing at Barnesdale Lodge farmhouse in Exton, Rutland, England.[4]
