Obituary for Lottie May Williams: Formerly Spriggs) On 15 april 1999 (peacefully after a short illness) at Gisborne. Dearly loved wife of Lorrie, much treasured mother and mother in law of Chris and Kevin Fishburn, Bill and the late Robyn Nicholson (Australia) Bid and Colin Arnott (levin), John and Judy Williams (Wellington) Sandra and Gary Bouer, Paul (Australia) Ricky (Auckland) loved nana of all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren: in her 77th year. Th funeral service will be held in Evans Chapel, Ormond Rd Gisborne at 11am on Wednesday 21 April, followed by private cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gisborne Palliative Care service would be appreciated and may be posted etc etc.
Lottie was the only Preston child to be born in Auckland. She was however educated in the Northland area.
Lottie and Tom had no children of their own but adopted Christine abt 1950.
During the second World War Lottie was a Land Girl.
Lottie and Tom sharemilked for the West Family in Helensville at the start of their marriage. The shifted to Toeatoea near Gisborne before they divorceed.
After the divorcee Lottie moved to Gisborne where she started working for Watties, starting at the bottom and working her way up to Forwoman. She meet Laurie Williams while working at Wattie in Gisborne and they moved to the Hornsby, Christchurch branch of Watties after they were married for a new start. Lottie ran the Hornsby branch until she retired at the age of 61 years in 1983 and then she and Laurie moved back to Gisborne to be closer to their family.
Laurie and Lottie were married for 25 years and it is said that they were the happiest years of her life.
Lottie was a very caring person and was always there when her family and others needed her. She loved her family very much, and nothing was too much for her.
In 1993 Lottie was one of the first people to work and co ordinate the "Lifeline" service. She was a very hard and willing worker. Lottie also was very much a part of ACC and worked with people to help prevent accidents.
