Biography

This profile is part of the Prettyman Name Study.

Joanna Rebecca Pettyman was born on May 18, 1839 in Georgetown, Sussex County, Delaware.[1] She was the daughter of James Prettyman and Hettie German. Her parent's and family moved from Delaware to Knox, Stark County, Indiana where she grew up. At age 11, she was in her parent's Farm home in Center Twp., Starke County, Indiana along with 5 siblings.[2]

She married Alfred Burton Willey (1836-1897) in 1857.[3] They had 14 children.

They made their home in New Boston Twp., Mercer, Illinois in 1870, where Albert was Farming and whe was taking care of the home and children, Lovina E-10, Harriett-8, Gracie-6, Charles-2, and baby Henrietta-1.[4]

They moved on to Marshall, Pawnee County, Kansas where in 1895 they had a Farm there. George-17, Cora-12, Nora-6 were in the home, and their son C L-29, wife Lucy-17, children, Raleigh-7, Earl-4, Ruth-2 were next door.[5]

Her husband Alfred Burton passed away on July 21, 1897, in Oketo, Kansas, at the age of 61. They had been married 41 years.

At age 70, and widowed she was living with her daughter, Lovina E Bell and family in Balderson, Marshall County, Kansas in 1910.[6]

She died on January 2, 1926, at the age of 86, in Bettie, Marshall County, Kansas and was buried in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Blue Rapids, Marshall County, Kansas.[1]
