Biography

Minervia Caroline Price was born on Aug 16, 1833 in Lincoln County, North Carolina, USA. (Note: This is prior to the establishment of Alexander County in 1847.[1] She is the daughter of Elijah Price and Sarah Bowman Price.[2] Minervia Caroline Price married her second cousin, Hosea Bowman, prior to 1860 in Alexander County, North Carolina, USA.[3] She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Friendship Lutheran Church on Oct 16, 1852 in Alexander, North Carolina, USA by Rev P.C. Henkel, Pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Polycarp Cyprian Henkel served as the rector at Friendship Lutheran church from 1847-61.[4] Her future husband, Hosea Bowman was also in the same confirmation class, based on his confirmation certificate date.

She resided with Hosea Bowman in Alexander County in 1860.[5] After her husband died in 1862, she resided with her only son Jonas Lafayette Bowman (1861-1935) until her death in 1907. She died on Mar 7, 1907 in Wittenberg Township, Alexander, North Carolina, USA..[6] Her burial location is not known at this time.[7]

Crouse, Subtitles is Friendship Lutheran, Hopewell Reformed , and Charity Baptist Churches and of the Bowman & Fry Families On page 102-103, the following is listed: Jonas Bowman married Elizabeth Little, a daughter of Jacob Little, of Catawba county. She was a sister of Sarah Little, his brother Joseph's wife. Accordingly their children are double first cousins. They settled on Mountain creek, about a mile and a half from Catawba river. Some time between 1845 and 1850, they moved near the river, on to a part of the old Barrett place, which they bought of Joseph Rowe. It now belongs to their son J. Socrates, Esq., but he lives near the public road and the old house near the river has been abandoned. They died there. Their children were: Hosea, Susan, Polly, Hinchea, Lovina, Alonzo, Daniel L., Jonas Socrates, Martha Elizabeth and Cephas. Hosea married Caroline Price. They had one child, Jonas Lafayette, who married Martha Jane, a daughter of Simon Cline. She died at the state hospital at Morganton, N.C., where she had been only two weeks for improvement of mind and body, March 18, 1905. Their children are: Loyd Elmore, Troy Everett, Hattie Susan, Percy Hosea, Laura Alena, Oliver Leslie, and Lottie Blanche. Hosea Bowman died in 1862 and his widow lives with her son.
