John was born about 1748. He was the son of John Price and Sarah (maiden name unknown). His parents first appear in the records of Augusta County in 1749 which was renamed Frederick before becoming Shenandoah in 1778. It is probable the family resided in Augusta when John Price Jr. was born. Record of John Price Sr. survey request and subsequent grant of 440 acres found under name of Lewis Pence assignee. [1][2] [3] [4]

Many researchers have confused the several John Price men who resided in Virginia during the 1700 time period. One way to separate our lineage from the others is YDNA testing. At familytreedna Price Surname results, the first group contains results for direct male descendants of John Price Sr. of Shenandoah County. Kits 62659 and 225043 identify the haplogroup as I-M253. A majority of the other Price men, including those connected to Henrico, Hanover, Cumberland, Pennsylvania and other areas, are in haplogroup R-M269. [5]

John Price Jr. was the brother of my direct ancestor Thomas Price who declared in his Revolutionary War Pension application S31917 that he (Thomas) was born 22 April 1750 in Frederick County Virginia. This was the same area as the 1749 survey, Hawksbill vicinity. Only the county name and boundaries were changed. Thomas also declared that prior to 1787 he had resided in the area except for six years. During the French and Indian War the family removed to Culpeper County for safety. This is confirmed by the Revolutionary War Pension Application of his brother Sampson Price S18167 [6] See Thomas Price 31917 and Sampson Price S18167 .

Shenandoah County Tax Records available in digital form on familysearch.org from microfilm 007856300 & 007856301 show John Price (Jr) neighbor of Edward Price between 1783 and 1786; neighbor of Thomas Price between 1782 & 1787; neighbor of Sampson Price 1783, 1784, 1794 & 1795. John Price Jr appears on the tax lists from 1782 to 1799. In the 1800 Shenandoah County only Sarah Price, his widow, and Stephen Price, his son, appear indicating death of John Price or removal from the county. Sarah Price and Stephen Price continue to be listed in all years checked between 1800 & 1816 on land of John Price adjacent to Abraham Pence who purchased land owned by his brother Edward Price. He passed before May 17 1800.
