Biography

No birth record for Hannah Price has been found, but she was born about 1704 in Anne Arundel County. Hannah's age is a guess based on an age of 16 at marriage. She was a daughter of Mordecai Price and Mary Parsons and was mentioned in the 1718 will of her mother who left her one negroe woman named Kate & one of the feather beds & furniture, and one fourth part of all her pewter.[1]

Marriage & Children

Hannah Price was married to William Tipton around 1720. [2] No parish record of Hannah's marriage to William Tipton has been found, but her relationship to the Tipton family is proved by a document entered into Baltimore County land records dated 17 OCT 1727 and summarized as follows

I Jonathan Tipton send greeting in consideration of the love and affection which I bear my well-beloved daughter-in-law, Hannah Tipton I do give her goods including: 1 servant boy, 3 head of cattle, 7 hogs, 6 pigs, a small chest, clothing, bridle, looking glass, frying pan, bed, and spice mortor to enjoy until the day of marriage of my granddaughter Sarah Tipton and then the said Hanna shall deliver to Sarah all the aforesaid goods, but in case Sarah Tipton shall die before marriage, the goods to be equally divided between my two grandsons, Samuel and Mordicai Tipton. [3]

Sarah and William were the parents of three children whose births are recorded all together in St. Paul's Parish register between entries of children born in the 1736:

  1. Samuel Tipton b. 13 MAY 1721.
  2. Sarah Tipton b. 3 OCT 1722.
  3. Mordecai b. 18 APR 1724[4]

William's passing on 6 May 1726 is also recorded in St. Paul's Parish.[4].

Hannah married as her second husband to John Bosley in Baltimore County, Maryland.[2] Hannah & John Bosley were the parents of at least two sons and eleven grandchildren who are all named in her will:

  1. Walter Bosley b. abt. 1728
  2. Joseph Bosley b. abt. 1730

Death

Hannah Bosley signed her will on 30 JUL 1776. She mentions each of her children to get just 5 shillings and left the bulk of her estate to her grandchildren who are all Bosleys. An abstract follows: Hannah Bosley of Baltimore County in the Province of Maryland being in perfect memory . . .

Mordecai Tipton was the son of William Tipton and is mentioned in the wills of both his father and and his mother, Hannah Price Tipton Bosley. Mordecai Price Tipton was born ca. 1724. Therefore, look for proof of the marriage around this time.
