In 1719, when he was in his mid-teens, he migrated to Pennsylvania with his parents, where the family settled in Germantown.
On 27 June 1721, his father, Rev Johan Jakob Preisz, had purchased 200 acres of land in what would become Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (then Salford Township, Philadelphia County).[citation needed]. He was a small man in stature and imperfectly developed, and fearing his weakly son would not survive to have children to carry on the family name, Johannes Preisz was told to marry a beautiful Unami maiden, a healthy young Indian maiden, no doubt a member of the Lenape tribe who was selected for her physical perfection.
About 1722,[2] when he was twenty, Johannes married Indian Maiden Lenape. She bore him two children, both sons:
In her sadness, Indian Maiden Lenape-Preisz went back to her Unami people, leaving the children with the grandfather to be raised. Clearly though she infused life into the family that has flourished for scores of generations.
Joannes Preisz was also a poet and published a book of work. After he died, on 7 Feb 1741, Jakob conveyed his entire 200 acre estate to the eldest grandson, Daniel.[citation needed]
From Wanger, Price Genealogy
"[Johannes] was seventeen years of age when with his father he came to America. He was a weakly youth and his father feared he would not live to have issue. And yet so anxious was the parent to leave a name and posterity behind him that he encouraged his son to marry while still young. It is said that an Indian girl, on account of her excellent physique and good health, was selected and became his wife."
The Price family genealogist tells the story:
An excerpt from Wanger's A Genealogy of the Descendants of Rev. Jacob Price, Evangelist, p.3.
Family historian Paul Thompson writes:
"About 5 years ago, I attended a Stover Sister Reunion that brought together prominent families from Minneapolis, Chicago, and Des Moines to a little place called Panther Brethren Church in Dallas County, Iowa.
"I was delighted to share with the family the recent connection I had found to the indian blood line through the Price family. Those present were intrigued, but one older lady spoke saying that she could remember her grandmother, talking about the indian grandmother from her childhood. She had forgotten about it and hadn’t spoken much of it."
The Preiszes lived on Indian Creek, north and west of Harleysville, which is about 30 miles north northwest of Philadelphia

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Johannes by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Johannes:
