Notes Brother to Philip Price who married Octavia Hughes in 1833. established his home in Warren County, Mississippi about 25 miles south of Vicksburg. He lived there during the years his son Robert was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Vicksburg, and raised his several families there. This son described him at a big, red-haired man, with a voice so strong that, instead of ringing the ususal plantation bell, he merely call his slaves in from the fields, perhpas a mile away. He, too, was musical, played the flute, and loved to sing. He was always called "Major," but where this was only a courtesy title, or whether he served in the territorial militia or in the War of 1812 has not been investigated. Not being particularly interested in the church, he objected to his brilliant eldest son's choice of the ministry as his life work and refused to send him to Princeton. Robert's aunt, Margaret Snodgrass, therefore continued his education at Princeton after his graduation at Oakland College.
