William was born in 1840. He was the son of Looney Price and Letitia Coody. He passed away in 1899. He contracted typhoid and was labeled an idiot in the 1870 Census.[1]
His obituary appeared in the Gonzales Daily Inquirer on 13 Oct 1899: "Mr. William Price, aged about 50 years, died Tuesday at the home of his mother, near Watson's gin. He was a brother to ex-Sheriff Dan Price."
Then on 24 Oct 1899: "William Shorey Price, the subject of this brief sketch was the eldest son of Lonney and Leitia Price, and died at his home seven miles South of Gonzales on Oct. 10th, 1899. Billie, as he was known by everybody, was born July 17th, 1840 in the Indian nation near Tahleaquah, and moved to Gonzales couty, Texas with his parents in 1855 where he has since lived. The celebrated Chief John Ross, whose fame as an oraotr and lawmaker spread over all this land, was his near relative on his mother's side. His father was for many years Captain of the Light Horse and a holy terror to the lawless element among the Cherokees. Peace to his ashes..and may his aged mother and brothers and sisters take hope in the glorious hope of the Resurrectiion."
