Robert Thomas Priddy was born in Virginia in 1845 to John D. and Mary (Merryman) Priddy. He is listed with his parents on both: the 1850 Census[1] and the 1860 Census[2] in Charlotte, Virginia. In 1867 he married Lavinia Watkins (see his marriage record below) and the couple are listed together on the following census reports:
Based on the data provided by the census records it is believed that they had at least eleven children. His wife passed away in 1929 and on the 1930 Census he is listed as widowed[7] with one daughter still in his household. He passed away at the age of 86 in 1931.[8] It is believed that he was a military veteran because an application was submitted at the time of his burial in the database for the "United States Headstone Applications for U.S. Military Veterans, 1925-1949."[9] Further research indicates that he is listed in the "Virginia, Civil War Service Records of Confederate Soldiers, 1861-1865," database" and was a private in 1864 in both: Capt. Paris' Co., Artillery (Stanton Hill Artillery); and Capt. Parker's Co., Light Artillery.[10]
