Biography

Joseph Le Prince is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 5 Left. Listed with Joseph is his sister Marguerite Le Prince. ^[1]

Joseph is listed as a orphan living in exile in Upper Marlboro Maryland in 1763 so his parents must have been deceased by that time. He is living with his first cousin Claire Rivet and her husband Bonaventure Forest. Claire was the daughter of Anne Leprince (about 1678-1755) and Etienne Rivet (about 1683).

Joseph and his sister Marguerite arrived in Louisiana aboard the vessel Virgin on July 12, 1767.

Marguerite Prince was noted aged 47 when she died in 1800, so probably born in the early 1750s. She married in 1771 which is compatible with that estimated birth year, however we know that given ages in death records are not reliable.

Arsenault identifies Marguerite PRINCE who married Jean-Louis BONIN as the daughter of Antoine PRINCE and Judith BOUDREAU. The SW Louisiana records are clear she was the daughter of Olivier Prince and Marguerite Boudrot.
