Biography

B. at Hospital Occupation: Master mariner

Was a Master Mariner on the Torr Head SS, in 1901 serving under Captain Thompson

This ship was known as the Presbyterian Ship as all 47 crew save one, a Catholic were Presbyterian. Ship built by Harland & Wolff, Belfast. Sank by German U-Boat U-60 under the command of Captain Karl Georg Schuster on 17th April 1917 off Fastnet Rock.

Died in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary

In the 1911 census James (age 46), Master Mariner, was the married head of household in Jordanstown, County Antrim.[1]
