The Newton Record, April 11, 1883, as part of the Metz Gleanings column:
"Grandmother Engle died last Thursday, after a prolonged illness with lung and throat affections. She was interred in Sugar Grove Cemetery on last Sabbath, the 8th. There was a large procession, notwithstanding the almost impassible roads. Mrs. Fox, of Ottumwa; conducted the funeral obsequies. The oration certainly was scholarly and well delivered; the subject discussed was "Why do you mourn?" and in answering it she led her audience through a new theory, but little known in this community."
Her parents were of French and English extraction according to "Portrait & Biographical Record of Jasper, Marshall and Grundy Counties, Iowa", 1894, page 222.[1]
