== Biography ==My name is Samuel McClam Propst. I have always known I am an adopted child. Until I took a dna test given to me by my friend and neighbor, Randy Pierce, as a Father’s Day present in 2018 my family history was devoted to the parents who loved and raised me. So, they are my parents and I was fortunate they made sure I knew about my family. Both sides had family Bibles, visited cemeteries, held reunions and each of my grandparents had sisters who collected and recorded family histories. In 1980 I was diagnosed with MS and spent four years in bed. This was the start of my involvement in genealogy. My father was friends with Mr. H. E. Godwin whose sisters were the Three Rivers Historical Society. Also, my dear friend Ann Rodgers Tomlinson was married to Bill Chandler, another Three Rivers member, a devoted and tireless researcher. The resources of the Society were made available and brought to life by Kent Daniels. Kent was and has always been my life line. Not only a history teacher but a historian and a great genealogist. For almost forty years now he is more than a friend. Because of Kent I have not only worked on my family but through the history of Lake City all the families in the area. My MS became manageable and I returned to teaching and life but kept the hobby. I left teaching to help my father at the end of his life and as an only child I took over his business. My marriage ended with no children and twenty years later I still enjoy spending some time each day with genealogy. As fate would have it, the day my dna results arrived I was sending emails to all my close matches when I suffered a pulmonary embolism. This was preceded by cataracts with only partial success from what has been a series of eye operations. It is during these last two years I have been fortunate enough to have been helped by cousins providing information on both sides of my biological family. It never ceases to move me the kindness and giving spirit of my biological family. I have spent forty years working on one family and now I have another family to learn about for the remainder of my journey. Sam Mac Propst, Lake City, SC. 1/17/2021.
