Pvt CSA, 57th Reg, Co G, NC Troops. From NC Troops: enlisted in Lincoln Co, NC at age 33, July 6, 1862, for the war. Hospitalized RIchmond, VA 10 Oct 1862 with bilious fever. Furloughed for 30 days on 12 Nov 1862; returned to duty Jan 15, 1863. Wounded in left arm at Chancellorsville, VA 4 May, 1863. (Muster roll under Marcus Propest has wounded near Fredericksburg, VA in Dec 1862 but records mixed with brother M. M) Left arm amputated at the shoulder joint. Hospitalized Richmond. Furloughed 60 days 13 June 1863. Reported on detail at Salisbury NC Nov 15, 1863. Reported absent wounded from 1 Mar 1864-28 Feb 1865. Survived the war.
In 1860 Catawba Co (Mull Grove PO Twp) NC census, with wife, also lists a 14 year old Martha Dickson as Nurse, probably to baby Jacob A. 4 mo old
