Harry was born September 22, 1912[1][2] in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas to Bert Prouty and Effie Weaver[3]. He was the sixth born of seven children. He moved to Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma as a young boy, where he was raised by his grandmother Miriam Green and her second husband Joseph Cooper until he reached adulthood[4].
