Lemuel Ezra Prowse was born on February 2, 1858 at Brackley Point Road, Prince Edward Island and was baptized on March 14, 1858 at the Cornwall United Church.[1] He was the son of William Prowse and Eleanor Horne. Lemuel married Frances Josephine Stanley on July 23, 1879.[2] They had three children, Herbert, Georgina and William.
Lemuel began his career working in the wholesale and retail drygoods business, first working for, and later in a partnership with W.A. Weeks. Later Lemuel and his brother Benjamin Charles Prowse created Prowse Bros Ltd which became one of Charlottetown's largest dry good stores.
Lemuel began his political career in 1893, when he was elected to the Legislative Assembly. He was reelected in the 1897. He was a Liberal and represented Charlottetown Royalty. [2] He first ran for a seat in the Parliament in 1904, but was defeated. He ran again in 1908 and was elected as Member of Parliament for Queen's, Prince Edward Island and sat for one term. He was defeated in 1911.[3]
Lemuel died on Dec 17, 1925 in Ottawa, where he was visiting his daughter.[4]
