Notables Project
T. William L. Prowse is Notable.

T. William L. Prowse was born on August 31, 1888 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.[1] He was the youngest son of Lemuel Ezra Prowse and Frances Stanley.[2]

William married Annie Martyn on February 4, 1913, in Vancouver.[3] Soon after their marriage, they moved to Prince Edward Island where their four children were born.

In 1914, William joined the family business, Prowse Bros Ltd. After his father's death in 1925, he became Vice-President and General Manager.[4] Following the death of his uncle, Benjamin Charles Prowse in 1930, William became President and General Manager.[1]

Like his father and uncle, William combined a successful business career with a successful political career. He began in municipal politics, as the Representative for Ward 5 on the Charlottetown City Council from 1922-1930. He was mayor of Charlottetown from 1930 to 1932.[5]

William was elected to the PEI Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for 5th Queens. He sat from 1935 to 1939 and again from 1943 to 1947. During both periods he was a member of the cabinet, as Minister without Portfolio.[1]

William became the 17th Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island on October 4, 1950.[6] He remained in the position until March 31,1958.[7]

William died on November 2, 1973 in Charlottetown.[1]
