Research Notes

Lots of issues here with dates and people but the one I want to address is Elizabeth's death date as we aren't supplied with any accurate information yet. 1) We know she was married to William Betts sometime before the Buckingham MM on 4 NOV 1776 as it stated that the marriage had already happened and both were then "disowned" 2) at the 7 JUN 1779 meeting, William requested that his two sons (Hezekiah and William) be taken in under the care of Friends which they granted (so, some event happened that created this moment since they were both in "their minority" - maybe the death of Elizabeth?? which might make sense since he married Mary Paxson around DEC 1781). Biography

Elizabeth Betts (formerly Pugh) was recorded in a church event on 1 December 1777 in Bucks, Pennsylvania where she was accused "of committing fornication and likewise hath gone out from amongst us with her marriage".^[1] Her husband William Betts was accused of fornication at the 4 Nov 1776 meeting and the meeting held on 2 Dec 1776 stated "this meeting was informed by an Overseer that he has accomplished his marriage with the person with whom he was guilty of fornication...."^[2] On 5 Apr 1779 Elizabeth's husband William produced a letter to the Buckingham MM acknowledging his guilt of fornication which was accepted.^[3] On 7 Jun 1779 William Betts requested that his sons Hezekiah and William be taken under the care of the meeting which was granted.^[4]
