From the bible of Lucy Speed (granddaughter):
"Lucy Speed's book, the gift of her Father, March 1, 1772, with his register transcribed. James Speed and Mary Pulley, our Grandfather and Grandmother, were married the 6th of September, 1711, by the Rev. John Cargill in Surry Co., Va., and both died in the same county. He was born in old England and died March 5, 1719-aged 39 years, 5 months and 6 days. She was born in Virginia and died June 3, 1733, aged 40 years and 19 days.
They had four sons, viz.: James, born June 16, 1712; John, born Feb 5, 1714; William, born Feb. 19, 1716 and Thomas, born Apr. 29, 1719. "
"James Speed b. in England 28th September, 1679, was the emigrant to Virginia about 1695; m. 6th September, 1711, in Surrey County, Virginia, Mary Pulley, b. 1693, d. June 1733."
