John Purdy, son of Francis, married Elizabeth Brown.[1] She was baptized 1 Aug 1647.[1]

  6. Francis Purdy 1677-1678

John Purdy died in 1678. [4]His estate inventory was taken at Fairfield 26 Dec 1678[5] and his widow Elizabeth made oathe. She asked that her father [step father] John Hoit, and her brother Thomas Browne (or brother Hacaliah Browne) be made overseers.[1][5]

In May 1769, the Connecticut General Assembly granted liberty to John Brandig and Eliz Purdy, who are administrators to the estate of John Purdy of Rye, deceased, to make, sign, seal, and deliver unto Francis Purdy deeds of sale for the one half of those land John Purdy aforesaid bought of John Jackson, lying in Rye which was purchased for the said Francis Purdy intentionally as appears on by testimonies.[6]

The references don't explain precisely why so many members of this family died in 1678, however King Philip's War may have been a contributing factor. Thousands of colonists died from either war or disease during this conflct. If you look at the John Purdy's probate record, Page 2, the next will posted is John Godwin, "a soldier in an expedition again the enemy.[5]

According to Thomas William Brundage,[7] John Purdy, b. 1648, d. 1678, m. Elizabeth Brown.

According to Perry Streeter,[8] Mary Brundish (John, Thomas) and Francis Purdy, who was b. abt. 1627 in England and d. 1658 at Fairfield, Fairfield Co., CT. She then m. 2nd John Hoyt/Hoit. He b. 2/12/1614 at York, England. d. 1684 at Rye, Westchester Co., NY (then Fairfield County, CT.) The 5 Purdy children were, as follows: John, Francis, Joseph, Daniel, and Mary. The 5 Hoyt/Hoit children were, as follows: Samuel, John Mary Rachel, and Simon.
