Cynthia Bernice McLeod nee Purdy was born 1925, the daughter of Ronald Claude Purdy and Stella Purdy nee Wiggins, in the town of Apohaqui, Kings County, NB, Canada. She went to school to grade 8 in the local schoolhouse, then Went to Sussex High School, in a neighbouring town, where she met Wallace Hiley McLeod. They married about 1946. Wallace nicknamed her Bunny. When I asked him why. he told me she used to hop-skip a lot when we went to school. He was a veteran of WW2 having been a WAG in the RCAF, i.e., a wireless air gunner in the Lancaster bomber squadron named Snowy Owl out of an airport in England while he was in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was promoted to Flight Sergeant prior to his release in 1945. Cynthia gave birth to two sons, William then Robert. Wallace re-enlisted in the RCAF shortly after their marriage and after a few months training he was commissioned to Pilot Officer and then he was sent to Winnipeg, Manitoba, so the family lived there for a few years. Then her husband retired from the RCAF and got a job with the federal government near Ottawa. They bought a farm property in Russell, Ontario and raised their boys there. Wallace loved to grow vegetables in his backyard garden. Robert tried a stint with the Canadian Navy but did not continue with it. William went to a college in USA for Chiropractors and graduated with the necessary qualifications and skill to open his own clinic in Ottawa, Ontario, which he still operates. Wallace died suddenly at home in his favourite chair one afternoon after waking from a nap he took while watching television. He is buried in the local cemetery in Russell. William, the chiropractor, still resides at the homestead in Russell. Cynthia passed away September 5, 2011. She is buried next to her husband. They will be missed by their grandchildren, Christopher, Sean and Ryan. They will also be missed by their great-grandchildren, Jessica, Sarch, Meaghan, Jon and William.
