Biography

Mary Purington / Purrington, daughter of Hezekiah Purrington (1674-1717) and Mary Scammon (1682-1760), was born on 20 October 1706 in Truro, Barnstable county, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1][2]

Mary had the following siblings:

  3. Phebe (Paine) Hopkins (1724 - 1798);
  4. Humphry Purrington/Purington;
  5. Jemima (Purrington) Purington;

  7. Elizabeth Purrington/Purington;
  8. Abiel (Purrington) Eldredge.

Mary Purrington married Barnabas Paine, the son of Thomas Paine and Hannah Shaw, on 25 June 1724 in Truro, Barstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Children of Mary Purrington and Barnabas Paine include:

Mary Purrington Paine died in her sixty-second year on 22 December 1768 in Barnstable county, Massachusetts Bay. She was buried at Old North Cemetery, Truro, Barnstable county, stone number 582. [4] [5] Barnabas died in Truro on 25 May 1768 and was also buried at Old North Cemetery in Truro, Massachusetts.
