Biography

Sarah Putnam immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

She was the daughter of John Putnam and Priscilla Gould. Sarah bapt. at Aston Abbots, 7 March 1622/3.[1][2]

Research Notes

Not the Sarah Putnam who married John Hutchinson: This is not the Sarah Putnam who married John Hutchinson-267 who was born in 1643.

Marriage to John Hathorne: 2023 Early New England Families sketch on John Putnam, identifies Sarah Putnam as "almost certainly" the wife of John Hathorne based on research by Jared James Nathan being prepared for publication. Sarah was one of two Putnam children baptized in England for which there is no burial record. The other, Elizabeth is definitively identified in New England by her admission to the Salem church in June 1643. John Hathorne and his wife were admitted to the Salem Church in October 1643, along with the baptism of their presumed son John. Multiple associations exist between the Putnam and Hathorne families. In the 1675 codicil to his will, Thomas Putham refers to "my brother Hathornes share." Also, the names Priscilla and Phebe appear in the Putnam/Gould families, but are not previously seen among the Hathornes.

They just added a new sketch for him in "Early New England Families, 1641-1700". See https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/early-new-england-families-1641-1700/image?volumeId=63235

Sarah married the immigrant John Hathorne.

Putnam-359 and Putnam-118 do not represent the same person because: These are two different Sara[h] Putnams - different parents, et al.

Putnam-832 and Putnam-118 appear to represent the same person because: same death. Since Wikitree doesn't support double dating, I've always understood that it's more correct to use the second year so 1622/23 should be listed as 1623.
