Exceprts from the Pyle Family History ............

...There was a large party of the Pyles and others, representatives of eight families in all, who crossed the Ohio river in 1818 to establish new homes in free territory. Although the long journey of the Pyle family from Chatham County, North Carolina to Greenville County, South Carolina, then on to Christian County, Kentucky, had been made on 26 packhorses, we are told that the exodus from Kentucky to the free soil across the Ohio river was made in wagons. It is believed that this large party of emigrants, headed by the three Pyle brothers (Children of John and Sarah (Brashear) ), William, Abner and John Pyle , traveled north by way of Morton's Gap and what is now Madisonville, and crossed the Ohio river at what is now Shawneetown, Illinois. They arrived at a fort on Crab Orchard Creek just four miles east of Carbondale, Illinois, and for fear of the Indians moved into this fort and made it their home for nearly a year.

...The first recorded deed in Perry County, Illinois, was given by William Pyle, Sr. and his wife, Elizabeth Pyle (signing by her mark) dated August 29, 1827. H. B. Jones and John Pyle, Sr. witnessed the deed. Several of the ten children of William and Elizabeth Pyle migrated to southern Missouri about 1850 and before, and settled near Dadeville and south of there.
