Biography

European Aristocracy
Bertha FitzMiles was a member of the aristocracy in England.

She inherited one-third of the barony of her father Miles of Gloucester when all her brothers died and it was divided between her and her two sisters. The part she received included Brecon and Abergavenny in Wales[1]

In 1173, her brothers all having died without issue, she brought the Lordships and castles of Brecknock (Brecon) and Abergavenny, to her husband. Hay Castle had already passed to her from her mother, Sibyl of Neufmarche in 1165, whence it became part of the de Braose holdings.

I have her as Bertha of Hereford in my personal database, but she was also known as Bertha de Pitres. In looking at the history of changes, Pitres-3 has been used as the final profile (e.g. others have been merged into it). I'd tend to agree that Gloucester would be more appropriate. We have three different LNABs for the various children of Miles...
How is she formerly "Pîtres" ? Wouldn't she be formerly De Gloucester?
