The progenitor of the Quinby family in America was Robert Quinby, a shipbuilder, who settled at Salisbury, Massachusets in June 1653.
Robert and William Quinby (undetermined relationship) came from England before 1639, probably to Salem, Massachusets. It is very probable that they were descendants of the well known Quinby family of Farnham, in the county of Surrey, England.
The family is Norman French extraction, but under the name of Quinborough resided previous to the emigration to America in Norfolk, England.
The armorial bearings of the family crest of the Quinbys and Quimbys were described in an article by W. B. Morrill, Register of Probate, in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, and a famous historian and genealogist. They were published in the Exeter Newlsetter on August 6, 1855.
Around 1653, Robert married Elizabeth Osgood, daughter of William Osgood, (a millwright) and Elizabeth (? nee) Osgood, residents of Salisbury, Massachusetts. [4]
Two of Robert and Elizabeth's sons moved to New Hampshire and are the progenitors of the family in this state, which is both extensive and numerous. There is also a family of the same name in Westchester County, New York, presumed to be a branch of the above.
Marriage
Robert Quenby married Elizabeth Osgood in 1656 in Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts, United States[5][6]The Salisbury Marriages show a further marriage record for Quenby, Robert, and Elizabeth Osgood,in 1659. CTR (p. 465)[7]Salisbury,Essex,Massachusetts[8] It should be remembered that there was a lack of minister or Priests during this period the first is possibly an offical recording of the relationship which was then formalised later in 1669.

The Quinby Family of Sandwich, NH (1923) by Henry Cole Quinby, the second source for the profile of son William, might give more data re Robert Quinby and Robert's family.
Profile Managers: There is no source listed which gives a primary source of the name or origin of Robert Quinby. Can we update his profile to state he was born before 1625 (probably England), and his parents are unknown? Looks like a case of "the names the same" random connecting.
