The birth of Jethrow Quenbey, son of John and Mary (Mudgett) Quinby, is recorded as 27 November 1710 in Salisbury.[1]
However, his mother Mary (Mudgett) Quinby died (as recorded) 17 August 1710, so either the date of Jethrow's birth or of Mary's death is incorrect. Jethrow was probably born in 1709.
July 1735, Jethro Quinby was brought before the court at York, Maine, for stealing from Shadrach Watson of Wells. He was tried and convicted and ordered to pay restitution and receive ten stripes on his back; also ordered that Shadrach Watson be empowered to take Jethro into his service or dispose of him into the service of any of the King's subjects for the term of fifteen months.[2]
October 1738, Jethro Quinby of Falmouth, laborer, appeared before the court at Falmouth to answer an indictment that he did, on 21 September, with force and arms steal from Zerubbabel Hunnewell and at the same time stole from James Russell, and in June stole from John Bodge. He was again tried and convicted and ordered to pay restitution and receive nineteen stripes on his back. Unable to pay the damages, it was ordered he be put into service for a year and a half.[2]
