Biography

Aaron Quinby was born June 17, 1757, on his father's homestead in Amwell township, New Jersey. On May 15, 1782, at the Buckingham Meeting (Quakers) Aaron married Lydia Balderston, daughter of John and Hannah Balderston of Solebury, Bucks county, Pennsylvania.

In the fall of 1802, Aaron and Lydia moved to Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. He bought a tract of several hundred of acres of land a quarter of a mile south of Little Britain Meeting House (Quaker church) and lived near the dividing line between Pennsylvania and Cecil county, Maryland. It is said that Aaron was the first person in his neighborhood to use the cradling scythe in his wheatfield and that it was such a wonderful improvement, that neighboring farmers soon followed his example. He also use the firs winnowing fan in that neighborhood. (Wind winnowing is an agricultural method developed by ancient cultures for separating grain from chaff. It is also used to remove weevils or other pests from stored grain. Threshing, the loosening of grain or seeds from the husks and straw, is the step in the chaff-removal process that comes before winnowing.)

Children of Aaron and Lydia are:
