John was born in Portadown, Armagh, Ireland on November 28, 1889. He was the son of John Quinn and Mary Gracey. He emigrated to the United States around 1910. He was a Private in the Salvage Division of The Quartermaster Corps in World War I from February 23, 1918 until May 3, 1919.

John married Eleanor Little in Philadelphia in 1919. The couple would have two children. John, Eleanor and their two children were enumerated in the 1930 and 1940 census residing at 3339 Rand Street, Philadelphia. His occupation "Weaver".

Eleanor passed away in 1944. John passed away on April 19, 1963 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital Philadelphia. Cause of death Broncho Pneumonia and Gastric Carcinoma. His mailing address at time of death was 226 Salem Ave., Bellmawr, New Jersey. He was buried on April 24th at the Oakland Cemetery, Philadelphia. He was seventy three.
