Mrs. Mattie Rader Franklin, 69, of Collettsville, died at 2 a.m. today in a local hospital after an illness of three months.
She was born Sept. 1, 1905, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Columbus Merk and Alice Hortence Lamberth Rader. She was the widow of Johnny D. Franklin, who died in 1965.
Mrs. Franklin, a graduate of Appalachian State Teacher's College, had recently retired from 30 years with the Caldwell County Schools. The last 20 years she had taught at Collettsville School. She was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church where she was a former treasurer and Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are nine sisters, Mrs. Fred (Annie) Estes and Mrs. Clifton (Florence) Crump, both of Lenoir; Miss Sally Rader of the home; Mrs. Carroll (Ellen) Moore of Hudson; Mrs. Leon (Bessie) Poley. Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Kincaid, and Mrs. Virgil (Carey) Prince, all of Morganton; Mrs. Ray (Mary) Tellie) Wallace of Collettsville; and Mrs. Louie (Hortense) Welborn of Patterson; four brothers, C. Merk Rader of Valdese, James W. and Joseph E. Rader of Lenoir, and George C. Rader of Taylorsville.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rocky Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Herring Crisp and Rev. Ambrose Singly. Burial will follow in the Estes Franklin cemetery....
