Researchers Notes

From https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LHZC-M3H:

John Ragan, Sr., eldest son of Timothy Ragan, Sr. and his wife Mary Lary, was married to Mary Morrice. He was first found as the witness to the deed between John Hardin and George Johnston on 11 Feb 1750 in Frederick County, Virginia. It is found again that he was later listed as witness for the deed between John Lindsie [Lindsey] and Issac Lerue [Larue] on 18 Jul 1751; and to the deed between George Johnston and George Washington on 16 Mar 1752 there.

Yes, this George Washington, as appeared in the land records of George Johnston in Frederick County, Virginia, was the one who had served as commanding General of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. And he later became the first President of the United States.

Later, he was one of two chain carriers for (1) 863 acres of land survey for Gerrard Alexander which was surveyed on 08 Mar 1753; (2) 400 acres of land survey for James Dunbar in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 26 Aug 1761 and recorded on 18 Mar 1765 (3) 350 acres of land survey for Matthias Gossett in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 10 Feb 1762 and recorded on 02 Oct 1762; (4) 436 acres of land survey for John Logen in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 10 Feb 1762 and recorded on 22 Mar 1765; (5) 50 acres of land survey for Robert Blackburn in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 09 Nov 1762 and recorded on 19 Mar 1765; (6) 416 acres of land survey for Thomas Green and Isaac Larew in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 31 Jan 1764 and recorded on 23 Mar 1765; (7) 420 acres of land survey for Joseph Reeder in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 04 Oct 1764 and recorded on 20 Mar 1765; and (8) 258 acres of land survey for William Snoddy in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which was surveyed on 19 Nov 1764 and recorded on 21 Mar 1765. He also was mentioned as landowner in the watershed of Opeckon Creek which joined the lands of (1) Robert Blackburn in 1762; (2) Matthias Gossett in 1762; (3) John Logen in 1762; (4) John Oliver in 1762; and (5) Joseph Reeder in 1764.

This John Ragan had served as private in Frederick County, Virginia militia during French and Indian War. It is no doubt in the mind of this writer that he had served under George Washington at that time.
