Daughter of Stephen Raines (1813-1880) and Phalby Hardin (1811-1880), Melissa was born in Greenville County, South Carolina in 1844.[1] She married George McGill around 1880, and they made their home in Easley, South Carolina[2] Her husband died in 1912.[3] Melissa died on June 3, 1920, and is buried at Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Dacusville.
