Biography

James Ramey was born in Westmoreland County, Province of Virginia about 1715. He was the son of William and Catherine (Asbury) Remy. James married a woman named Elizabeth—some researchers have given her maiden name as Sanders, but there is no evidence to back this claim.

Children of James and Elizabeth:

  1. Philip Ramey, b. abt. 1740; d. aft. 1783, when he appeared on the Property Tax List in Culpepper County, VA.
  2. William Ramey, b. abt. 1742; removed to North Carolina.
  3. Daniel Ramey, b. abt. 1744; d. 25 Jan 1806, Clark Co., KY; m. Rachel Johnson.
  4. Mary Ramey, b. abt. 1746
  5. James Ramey, Jr., b. abt. 1748
  6. David Ramey, b. abt. 1750
  7. Lawrence Ramey, b. abt. 1754; d. 3 Apr 1835, Browne Co., OH; m. abt. 1784, Ann Newman.

James died in Frederick County, Province of Virginia about 1760. His widow married Thomas Cooper before 5 Apr 1761 when her son William was apprenticed to John Howard. [2]
