Biography

Birth

Law Cookson Ramdsen was born in Elland, Yorkshire on 8th February 1865.^[1] He was the son of Joseph Ramsden and Mary Ann (Pearson) Ramsden. His baptism took place at St Mary's, Elland on 11th February 1866.^[2] His father stated on the register that he was a dyer and that the family were living in Elland at the time. Both Law's birth and baptism dates were recorded on the register.

Marriage

Law Cookson Ramsden and Rachel Jepson were married after banns at St Stephen's, Rashcliffe, Yorkshire on 25th October 1884.^[3] They were bachelor and spinster and both living in Somerset Terrace at the time. Law was 19, a dyer and the son of George Ramsden who was also a dyer. Rachel was 20, a reeler and the daughter of Matthew Jepson who was a weaver. Law signed his own name on the register whilst Rachel could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Robinson and Mary Jane Ramsden.^[4]
