Bird was born about 1850. He was the son of William Ramsey and Sarah Shelton. He married Lydia Parrish in 1871. In 1900 they are enumerated on the federal census in Franklin County, Kentucky. [1] He passed away in 1945. [2]

Andrew walked everywhere he went. Even in the winter he walked to work. Before he died he walked 6 miles to see a relative. His mother would heat up wood in the winter so when he walked to school barefoot, he could stop and put the wood down and warm his feet. He carried the wood next to his body.
