"Romantic in their attachmant to the South, tinged somewhat with the fatalism of a military dreamer, they took no more heed of their life than of the wind which blew out the long locks of their hair - no more thought of the future than if God were liberty and death but a going to God. As soldiers under fire, their conscience told them that it was their duty to die at any time, AND THEY DID!"

Notes

Update: I have dna confirmation that this is indeed that right family.
I'm not completely sure that this William is William M Ramsey my great great grandfather. This record is one county over where William lived his adult years and the age is right, but that's the only proof I have to link the families. Since Thomas died 3 years later I'm not sure if there is much more information I can find. If I find out different I will fix this.
