Biography

William Edgerton Rankin was born in 1854 in (what is now Ontario,) Canada. He was the fourth of the six children of Barrett Dyer Rankin and Ann Bates. ^[1]

In 1871, the Rankin family lived in Percy Township, Trent Hills, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada. The family included Dyer Rankin, 48, born in Ontario; his wife Ann, 49, born in England; their children, all born in Ontario, Emily, 18; William E., 17; and Christiana, 15. ^[2]

William Edgerton Rankin, 22, the son of Dyer and Ann Rankin; and Annie Cryderman, also 22, the daughter of Ezra and Mary Cryderman, were married on New Year’s Day, 1877 in Cramahe, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada. ^[3]
